In this set of presentations, our
group was the first to present and our subject was the pandemic. I really
enjoyed covering this topic, as it is such an important part of our lives
currently and will be a big part of our history on a global scale. With that
being said there are so many facets and issues to talk about with this
pandemic, that it was a bit difficult to narrow it down and create a
presentation that would flow however we pulled through with some leadership on
my part and group effort. Lorena and I started the presentation with the
introduction of what the virus exactly is, how it enters and affects the body.
And we discussed the issues we are facing with it from post COVID-19 secondary
medical issues to new strains and second waves. From there, Susej and Andy
covered the history and overview of the coronavirus. Susej did an amazing job
in giving us a history recap of the virus and how it may have come to be as
well as a look to our last pandemic of 1918. Andy spoke on the evolution of the
virus and how the vaccination works to help fight off this virus. We then
looked at the public and personal recounts of this pandemic, which were
provided by Andrei and Claudia. Melody and Christian brought us a global view
of the handling of this pandemic and they did a great job and showing the good
and bad. Sade and Anniet brought it home in closing out our presentation with
national and local resources. They covered vaccination sites and spoke on
government food programs as well as distribution sites. I loved the topic and
the information given to our fellow classmates from the medical information, to
opinions and helpful locations sites. My only complaint is I feel as a group we
lagged a bit and some did not bring their fullest potential to the project but
I did see others in my group bring their best and it was awesome! However, we
still pulled through to educate our fellow students and ourselves in the
process on this pandemic. Sofia and Lisette were as always ready to help us and
offer us encouragement!
The second group to present was group 2
and their subject was Education. They did an amazing job at covering this
topic, it was a very clean and almost issue-less presentation. They spoke about
all the issues we are facing today with education from an outdated curriculum
to pandemic related issues and setbacks. We learned about the importance our
country places on standardized testing and how it hinders students more often
than it helps and how funding, culture, and religion play a big part in our
dated curriculums. They also spoke about virtual learning and gave us the pros
and cons of and how we can adopt some of the flexibility of online learning to
in class learning. We got a look into how the pandemic has affected public
school funding and how those in the lower class have been affected more so than
higher-class schools. Ultimately how students have been affected mentally and
emotionally from the impact of the pandemic with the education system. It was
an eye-opening presentation where I also learned how students who were living
in dorms and out of the country students were impacted by COVID-19 and what
assistances student body and universities offered students.
The last group to present was group 1 and
they covered racism, a very controversial issue. Group 1 definitely had some
technical issues and it seems they went a little over the time but with such a
big broad subject, it can easily be overlooked and forgiven, especially when
they did such a great job with informing us on so much history and current
events. It is a very sad and angering subject but they gave us a thorough look
into slavery and although we learn this in school, we are usually spared the ugly
truth of it. I re-learned quite a bit and took in new information on current
issues with police brutality and systematic racism. It is an unfair and racist
world out there but we all have to do our part to try to break the chains of
racism finally. If we stand together and remember we are all humans as they
said in the presentation, we can be better and prosper towards a brighter
future.
